Ding ding! That’s the sounding bell of conference season! It’s here again, folks. And I’m doing my very first solo presentation at Web 2.0 Summit, SF.
WWCMD? What Would the Community Manager Do?
What makes an effective Community Manager? We will work together to create a list of best practices and then discuss what we might be able to learn from them. How can we apply the Community Manager’s approach to all aspects of running a business?
And if you’ve got any Community Manger best practices you’d like to share or things you might like to learn, let me know in the comments!

A gift from my friend Anita:
Why do we have private property? . . . We use it to measure value, whether emotional, economic, or social. The more private property I have, the richer I am. Privately held items of all kind are generally valued more than publicly held ones . . . What would happen if we engineered a slightly different version of peivate property? We could pick one aspect of the concept and just tweak it a little, perhaps removing the connection between value and exclusivity. The more exclusive an item, the less we would value it. Thus, I could still have my private toothbrush, but it wouldn’t be worth very much. Other items, like a car or a building, would grow in value the more they could be shared with other people. - Annalee Newitz

the twitter film (racing north, chased by tweets, chasing tweets) from svanes on Vimeo.
the film is constructed around a time-lapse journey by car from los angeles to san francisco, while twitter postings from the same day travel across the bottom of the screen. in this sense, the tweets function like a news ticker, transmitting reports from all over the globe.
concurrently, time, as experienced in the film, moves forward on three levels: the actual travel that is recorded on film that can be measured in distance and time, while the twitter postings provide an additional register of the day’s progression.
finally, the movement and rhythm of the tweets mimics the ebb and flow of car traffic during the day. some tweets move into the passing lane to overhaul slower tweets, while other tweets rush at each other from opposing directions.
this is a non-commercial project that was created solely out of my own curiosity and for the amusement of my friends and contacts in the “twitterverse.”
A few of my tweets are in there. Can you spot them?

Another winner from my hero, Greta Christina:
Being an atheist doesn’t mean that life isn’t important. It means that we get to create our own sense of importance. The human scale is where we live. It’s what we have. And if we decide that that’s the most important scale for us, there’s nobody out there to tell us otherwise.
I couldn’t have said it better myself.

My name is Micki Krimmel. I’m the founder of Sugar Packet, Inc., a tiny company with a big mission: To fundamentally change our relationship with material items.
I also work as a web strategist/consultant when I’m not dancing to techno or practicing roller derby. Los Angeles is my primary residence with the Internet coming in at a very close second.
